It was announced by TCRA (the Tanzanian Registry), that the .tz direct domain extension will launch on 1 March 2022. Previously, domains were only available at the third-level (e.g. faasy.co.tz). Now domains will be available at the second-level (e.g. faasy.tz).
Priority For Current Third-Level Domain Owners
For the first three months of the .tz launch, owners of third-level domains such as co.tz, or.tz and mobi.tz domains will be eligible to register the exact matching .tz domain.
We strongly recommend that you register the corresponding .tz domains during this priority phase via microsafi.com.
Registering your name or trade mark in this new extension will help you to protect your brand online, as owning both the co.tz and .tz domains will form part of a defensive domain registration strategy.
.TZ Launch Timeline Phases
The launch of .tz will take place in three phases:

If there are multiple qualifying applications for the same domain during a single phase, the domain will be allocated to the registrant with the earliest application date, therefore it is key to submit your application as soon as possible once the relevant phase begins.
Removal of Local Presence
TCRA also announced that a local presence in Tanzania is no longer required for the administrative contact. This means the .tz namespace is now open to everyone making it more important than ever to secure your brand by registering your .tz second-level domain via microsafi.com
